Copy of your child's birth certificate (A baptismal certificate WILL NOT be produced until the birth certificate/legal document is received).
2. BAPTISM SEMINAR
It is a requirement that both parents and both Godparents must attend a baptismal seminar prior to the child being baptized. This is requirement. Parents and Godparents who cannot attend the Baptismal Seminar in St. Christopher Parish may attend a seminar in another Catholic parish and have that parish send a letter confirming such attendance. It is highly recommended that if the child is being baptized in St. Christopher Parish that the baptism seminar be attended in St. Christopher Parish as well. A child must have only one Godfather and one Godmother. Godparents should be baptized Catholics who have been confirmed and are a good sacramental role model by regularly attending church. If they are married (either to one another or to another person), their marriage should have been celebrated in the Catholic Church. These are requirements of the Catholic Church and are followed in our parish.
Baptism seminars typically take place in the St. Christopher Parish Center (Corner of Derbigny St. & Manson Ave.) on the last Friday of each month at 7:00 pm. They typically last about an hour and are free of charge. They are led by either Deacon Phil McManamon or Deacon Michael Cardella, Jr.
To register, contact the rectory office at 504-837-8214 or via email at [email protected]
3. BAPTISM DATE
Baptisms are typically celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of each month, following the 11:00 a.m. Mass. Except for serious circumstances, private Baptisms are not permitted. Please note that baptisms are not encouraged during the Lenten Season unless it pertains to the birth of a newborn. IT IS A REQUIREMENT THAT THE FAMILY (INCLUDING GODPARENTS) ATTEND THE 11:00 AM MASS THE DAY OF THE BAPTISM. The baptism date can only be scheduled after all required paperwork is submitted and approved by Fr. Raymond Igbogidi, Pastor
