St. Christopher Parish School of Religion classes, for grades K-11, are held most Tuesdays from 6:30 pm - 7:45 p.m. Any child not enrolled in a Catholic school should attend our Parish School of Religion. Scholarships are available. We are in need of teachers and aides! Come out and share your love of the faith with our children! For more information, please contact Phyllis Stevens at 504-812-9009.
At the Baptism of a child in the Catholic Church, parents are reminded that they are the “primary teachers of their children in the ways of faith.” They are asked, “Are you ready to accept this responsibility?” And they joyfully respond, “We are!”
The Church is well aware that many parents need the help of their family and faith community to teach their children about the beliefs, sacraments, and prayer of the Church and the obligation and challenges of living their Catholic faith. Many children receive their religious formation as students in a parish school. For children who do not attend a Catholic school, St. Christopher provides a Parish School of Religion (CCD). Often abbreviated “CCD,” the Catechism of Christian Doctrine is a religious education program of the Catholic Church, normally designed for children.
Our parish is blessed to have men and women who volunteer their time and experience to share their faith and knowledge of the teachings of the Catholic Church with the children who attend our Parish School of Religion. They prepare the material for the classes and other events for the children. They come early to be present when the children arrive, and they remain after class to make sure the classroom is ready for the students who will come to school the next day. They truly believe that Every Child Counts, and We Care about Every Child.
They are dedicated to helping the children grow in knowledge and love of God, and we all owe them a great debt of gratitude for their dedication to the children and our CCD program.
There is a nominal fee for each child to cover the cost of the teaching materials and events intended to engage the children in prayer and in the practice of the faith of the Church.
We urge every parent, grandparent, or guardian of a child baptized in the Catholic Church who is not attending a Catholic school to register their child in our Parish School of Religion. If you have any questions, please contact Deacon Phil McManamon via email at [email protected].
Please complete the documents below and mail or bring them to 309 Manson Street, Metairie, LA 70001. If this is the first time you are registering your child, remember to include his or her Baptism Certificate and a check for payment.
NO CHILD WILL BE DEPRIVED OF FAITH FORMATION IN OUR PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION DUE TO INABILITY TO PAY THE COST.
